Power supply for a railway station in the Erding area: Cable laying under challenging conditions
In the Erding area, our team successfully laid a main power cable for the electronic signal box (ESTW) – the system that supplies the station with the necessary power.
The initial situation was challenging: upon opening the cable shafts (concrete covers weighing approx. 60 kg each, opened using cover lifters), it became apparent that the shaft, which was around 2 metres deep, was filled with water to a depth of up to 90 cm. The shaft was first pumped dry using a submersible pump so that the work could be carried out safely.
A 4×95 mm² copper cable was then laid over a total length of 375 metres, and all the concrete covers were properly resealed.
Operations such as these demonstrate how important flexible problem-solving and technical expertise are in railway infrastructure construction – even when on-site conditions are not always ideal.
